The word ceramics is derived from the Greek word "Keramikos", a generic term for "inorganic, non metallic materials, whose formation is due to the action of heat", compliments of our threadbare dictionary and Wikipedia.
These inorganic, non metallic materials include clay based products, such as stoneware, pottery, china and porcelain.
